Meet my new toy - NIKON 1
Saturday, June 9, 2012 | 0 comment(s)
Heeellloo! Been pretty busy that I have no time to really go online and write about what has been going on. But in a good way I guess (: I have been catching up with friends (yay, plus 1 point to my social life!), busy working to have a balance in life and lastly..... Been indulging in too much good food!
I will share with you more on the food I've been indulging recently in the next post since I do not have my camera with me.
Yesterday, as y'all know it was the IT Show. Well, I don't really wanna go there and squeeze in the crowd just to look around. But I was actually there, looking for a DSLR, unarmed with any information or research and in actual fact, got lost with the amount of technology!
It was SO crowded and I was surprised. Ok, not surprised that it was crowded but maybe more surprise that it was SUPERRRR CROWDED even on a Friday? I thought Singaporeans would wait till the last day to grab all the freebies and goodies and cheap prices. Not for me, I cannot stand the crowds and the stench. So I was there, walking around finding the cameras I guess would be good. Well, Canon was the most recommended by most of my friends because they said it's a good basic starter kit. I think it depends on personal preference.
Yes, I agree Canon is well-known for it's cameras. Super good photo quality. In fact, I've been a Canon fan since young. Personally, I love the Canon Ixus Series.  My first camera (and my all-time favourite model) I bought for myself in secondary school after saving what-felt-forever, was the Canon Ixus 80IS. I know it's a really old model that in a few years, it stopped manufacturing already.
Until now, this camera is my favourite. I have sentimental values for this camera. The physical outlook of the camera really attracts me so much. I love the sheer baby pink colour and the very squarish body.
Ok, if you're wondering since I love this camera so much, why did I change to other cameras? Well, the answer is I never intended to change to any other camera once I got this BUT I had no choice. I was shopping with my family in Jusco Malaysia when I got pickpocket. The person apparently open my zip in my bag and took my camera out and flea. I guess he/she must have been watching me very tightly to know my camera was inside since I always took it out to take photos everywhere. The theft fled with my camera, without zipping my bag. It was very depressing for me then. I saved so much ($400 then) just to buy this camera I liked so much and at that time, I didn't have much allowance at all.
I've got a very clingy personality to my technology gadgets that I purchase. Unlike clothes or bags or shoes, my gadgets have the most emotional attachment and I'm very particular about them. So when my mom saw my zip was open and when I found my camera was missing, I panicked and started to run around the mall, tracing back where I went just in case I dropped it. By then, I was crying so badly and the whole car ride home my tears didn't stop. I think it's the first time my parents saw me so heartbroken. I remembered hoping it was a nightmare the next day but it wasn't. My dad was very nice to offer to buy me a camera again but I found it my model was not manufacturing anymore!
Seeing his daughter so sad, he bought me another Pink Canon Ixus Camera.
Canon IXUS 95IS. By then, this was the latest model. I like the hot pink, but I didn't like how much smaller it was compared to my old camera. Life goes on, so this was my camera for the longest time. It's good. Canon is always good. What I didn't like was the price. It's good but really expensive.
The time for Canon in my life stopped when Wilson bought me a Sony Camera - The reason he bought me this camera was because when I joined him for dinner with his Navy friends, one of his friends was holding this camera and it was really cool.
This Sony camera has alot of different modes and I was really attracted to it! It is a huge jump from my Canon cameras as this is more advanced and it was more of what I was looking for then.
It is a REALLY good camera if you know how to play with the different mode. I'm really happy he bought me this camera :D I'm so lucky! It is actually one of the best digital camera I would say. Beats the two canon I had.
However, recently because I have been into close-up photography and I found interest in taking photos of my delicious food and nice places at night, I found this camera not meeting my expectations in terms of sharpness and how much light the camera lens can take in. So I brought up the topic of buying a DSLR but I didn't know that we were THAT serious. Haha. We are flying off to Australia, Gold Coast on Sunday night and I wanted to take really sharp nice photos of everything.
That's how we ended up at IT Show yesterday night. We walked around Canon, well, DSLR for Canon are all REALLY BIG. I know that's a normal DSLR and I shouldn't be complaining. But they are really pricey for Canon too. Saw Olympus, Fujifilm.... Had no impression of them except Olympus Pen but it's too mainstream.
Then, I saw the perfect model. It caught my eye!
Nikon 1 :D
Firstly, the huge lens caught my eye. Then I realized, hey! The size is like a digital camera but it has a DSLR lens! OH It's a DSLR! Then I stood there for 2 hours without knowing until they announced that the IT Show is closing. I bombarded the sales guy with 101 questions and lots of expressions. Haha. But he's a really nice salesperson. Infact, very honest and frank which is good! I hate those dodgy, sales-driven guy who just want to sell their stuff and gives you all the bullcrap about their product when they just want you to take out your credit card and swipe!
Their colours bought me over! Being so predicable... You will know I like the Pink one (; But I also have an eye for the white and red one. Actually I was considering the pink and white secretly, but Wilson mentioned the Red which looks more like I take my photography seriously. I agree! If not people will really see my Pink camera as a serious toy. Hahaha. But it will be nice if I could own a Pink DSLR. Like a girl's dream but I got the red and it's also my favourite la! If I could buy all three colours and change the casing, that will BE IDEAL!
I couldn't really accept the fact I REALLY got a DSLR until today. I think the feeling will settle in soon enough, and I am actually very very happy! :D
So, how does the red look?
I can't wait to actually use it for real tomorrow. First, my brother's birthday celebration and after that, I will be flying off to Gold Coast immediately!!! YAY! I can't wait to cook in our apartment and have a life there! My next post will be about my featured sunglasses (; Stay Tuned!
Have an awesome weekend everyone (:
Let the weekends begin!

My favourite sunglasses
Tuesday, May 1, 2012 | 0 comment(s)

Anything you can put on your body to beautify yourself is every girl's favourite!

It will be weird if a girl don't like accessories. Even if you are not girly, you will at least put on a nice leather watch and maybe a simple earring or necklace. Well, for me I love accessories but I toned down a lot from my exaggerating ding-dang-dongsss on my arms. I used to have like bangles stacking themselves on my arms and rings after rings on every finger. But I guess ever since I played touch rugby, the hassle to remove all that stuff before training and putting it back after I shower in school has got me a little lazier to put them on and every time I dress up in the morning, I will think twice about wearing an extra bangle or necklace. Knowing I have to remove them for safe keeping. Haha!

But I still use them now every now and then. And one of my favourite other than bangles and earrings/necklaces are sunglasses! :D Well, you can never go wrong buying them especially when you are in sunny hot hot SINGAPORE! And as we get older (girls!), no we do not age like wine so we really need to take care of our skin. (It's so weird coming from me)

I promised this entry about my favourite sunglasses from my workplace (: You may have the same sentiments too!

First of all, MY ESSENTIAL FAVOURITE (which I actually reserved and about to buy it)

Ray bans aviators - everyone has this

I know, I don't have this. Kinda slow in trend but I just couldn't find the right one that can match me!

Love the gold rims and gold reflective mirror lenses

2nd favourite in my list that I HAVE to always try them on whenever I work, despite the 100 times I already tried the same pair....

THEIRRY LASRY!

If you are into fashion, you will know about this brand. But if not, don't worry. You will fall in love with the glasses without even knowing them! Love at first sight!

One of my top favourite from the collection

And the very popular tortoise shell.

The all-time favourite oldies that your grandpa might have...

The frogskins! I love the outstanding colours! It's neon and so bright!

And the very popular sportsman oakleys

I wanna get this for Wilson, he looks so good in it!

All the team USA and striking colours

The very futuristic NOOKA

Very unique Karen Walkers, I love the quality of these handmade sunglasses

Le specs

SO PRETTY!!!

And ending off with the exclusive Juliets

Those are my particular few favourites and some of them are just shared because they are common favourites, like the oakleys! Sorry if the photos aren't very professional or very sharp because credits to the photographer ME (; I went around snapping photos with my digital camera when nobody was in the shop.

What are your favourite kind of sunglasses? Are they exactly the same as what I posted? (:

A girl can never go wrong with any accessories on them!

Haji Lane cat!

So if you are wondering where you can find those sunglasses that I have posted online, here are the information.

Have a good week ahead!

GUESS WHAT GUESS WHAT
Thursday, April 26, 2012 | 0 comment(s)

If you ever followed my blog, or pop by once… or twice…. or thrice….

I wrote an entry about how to be a gracious commuter on public transport and make it a better ride for everyone. It was dated on 16th March, more than a month ago. It is my passion to write and I thought, hey it wouldn’t kill to join this contest to write up an entry like that.

I don’t think highly of my blog. Like I’m not any superstar blogger like those blogger I admire - Xiaxue for example. (Don’t judge me!) She’s really good and ++ she love pink too! Ok, so I don’t think highly of my writing and it’s really passion that I enjoy writing and I can write foreverrrrrrrr…….. So after I wrote that entry for LTA, which is hosted by Nuffnang, I told Wilson, “Wow…. If only I can win the first prize….. $1200…. That’s like almost a month’s salary! And winning for my passion for writing, no sweat somemore. DAMN worth it. But if I win Merit $100, also shiok already!”

That’s what I told Wilson. With little hopes then.

But as days and weeks past, whenever I see the LTA posters in public transport, I felt alittle sad, cos’ I got no reply on whether I won anything at all so I thought they didn’t pick me.

BUT JUST YESTERDAY………  :D:D:D:D

Ok my reaction was abit slow cos’ I was intensely studying for Business Stats so while reading this email on my phone, what only made me read it was cos’ it was from Nuffnang and I saw “Congratulations” but the bolded words didn’t occur to me at all! Until my friend xy asked me if it’s first prize. HAHAHA Then I went to see.

OH MY GOODNESS. I MUST BE DREAMING! I GOT TOP ENTRY!  :D:D:D

I went to double confirm, JUST INCASE it’s false hope.

It’s on the Nuffnang website!  That’s me! Hahaha first time seeing my blog URL somewhere. Hehe I’m so honored and thankful! Thank you, Nuffnang!

I had to immediately call my momma and text Wilson in Taiwan to tell them this surprise!  Well, sorry I know I act as if I won $1 million but this IS alot of money to me already + I won it with my own efforts (: I’m so happy.

If you would like to read the entry that won me this prize, you can click here.

Thank you to all my readers (if I have any!) for reading my blog. Although it might be all rants sometimes or just nonsense. Haha. Just so you know, it’s the genuine me. I like to talk a lot… in words.

Next entry, my favourite sunglasses! – Sorry, I know I owe that since Sunday but the books got into me…. It’s too hard to juggle time now. By this weekend! Promise!

8TH MAY HURRY COME
Monday, April 23, 2012 | 0 comment(s)
I just cut my hair yesterday and did treatment. It's not much of a difference in the photo but my head feels so much lighter and my hair is SO smooth like baby's hair! But I only hate tying my hair now cos' it's not as thick and nice as it looks in a ponytail compared to last time. Need to wait for the bush to grow!
Countdown to my exams: 2 DAYS
I'm having mixed feeling about it. Not motivated but yet, don't wanna drown in the pool of my big fat ego if I don't do well. Honestly, it isn't looking good this week. Facing the biggest giants of my semester, the numbers paper. It has been countless of days mugging, mugging mugging. I have two good reasons for 8th May to come.
#1. NO MORE EXAMS
I can watch youtube, use facebook and watch teevee without feeling GUILTY. I can lie in bed and play my iPad without feeling GUILTY. I can go out shopping, meet friends or whoever for dinner without feeling GUILTY. Actually, me cooping myself  at home with the books is just so I won't feel guilty and won't blame myself if I didn't do well - Cos I tried. And I really did!
#2. WILSON IS COMING BACK SOON
Okay I make it sound like damn soon, but actually I got 2 and a half more weeks to go. Only one week passed and it feels horribly long already. I just got a phone call from him this afternoon (: He just reached Taiwan this morning. I hope he have fun tonight with the good food and the bubble tea! Wished he could bring back some good bbt for me hehe authentic bbt, yums. Ok, so when 8th May comes, it means there is only 2 more days till he is back! :D But he has to sail for another week after he is back for a day. But nvm. The wait is over! At least between the 8th till he comes back, I can do whatever I want - eat, shop, go out, laze at home AND PLAY FREAKING LAN GAMES. HAHAHA. I'm quite an addict to battleship - not the movie (I haven't watch it yet) but the World of Warcraft game It used to be our weekly Friday late night activity till 5am but it's on hold now, due to exams. Excited!!!
#3. I can start planning for a travel trip again!
I will be going for a holiday in June but not sure where so when 8TH May comes, I can start planning for a good trip and get really excited over it :D Damn. Now I'm already excited. Wanted to go Hong Kong cos' it has to be our annual trip every year but W only prefers it during its winter ): Means no summer shopping for me.... But I might consider Australia or Bangkok or..... I don't know. Anywhere! 8TH MAY JUST COME AND I'LL BE SO HAPPY HAHA.
OK now that I've listed all the reasons to be excited for, I should be more motivated to study better now. Bye for now! I realized I only talk a lot on my blog, but I have been speaking very little words these few days ): Haha well, I used to only talk to Wilson like every night, vomitting 20,000 words to him and he seems like the only one I can actually really talk to without feeling judged and who really understands me. At least I got time to blog now and it can contain all my opinions (: Either ways, I'm happy.
Have a great week ahead, and lucks to everyone having their exams too!
xx

My energy level has been pretty __________ Low. Wilson is temporary on RSS Endurance to stand in for a pregnant officer for this Taiwan trip. He will only be back after 24 days. And when he's back, he will be home only for a day and gone sailing for another week with his own ship.
Sigh. Time passes so slow without him. Ok, not really. When I'm concentrating on my studies, it passes too freaking fast. But when I'm not doing anything, sigh it feels like forever. I'm not whining cos' I don't see him for awhile. Maybe this is the first time he is going for more than a week and I have to get used to this for a few years. Plus, I always have smth to look forward to at the end of whatever I do in the day - To see him, meet him for dinner or just do nothing but be with him. Now, I'm kinda lifeless.. Like I got nothing to look forward to everyday anymore. Hah, sounding so pathetic. Thank God for my exams, it is doing good keeping me busy and distracted.
24 days! Counting down... it's the 20th day ;D Yay.
He got back from Sailing on Saturday and we have been spending time together like there's no tomorrow for the remaining 3 days before he sail off to Taiwan. Haha. It was fun. He seldom get the energy to last through the nights but for that 3 nights, we got to watch horror/thriller movies on my iPad till wee hours! I was really happy (: On Tuesday, we aimmed to wake up early for dimsum breakfast before he sail... We are bummers. Haha. On a day when he doesn't have to wake up for work, we ALWAYS sleep till 1pm and get out of bed at 2pm. It was a tough push to wake up at 9.30am that day but we did it! Hehe.
He look so good here (:
In the car while we do errands
We went to this pretty well-known Dim Sum place at Sembawang Road. My dad used to bring us there when we were little, just before our JB trip. I used to thought this Dim Sum place was Malaysia already cos' it felt so far from my house... But heehee it's actually near my 2nd home now (;
Love the Holga effect.
He hates it whenever I have to spend awhile to take photos before I can eat.
I really like the century egg siew mai. And my favourite usuals, chicken feet and har gao.
What's a dim sum morning without century egg porridge?
Prawn Chee Cheong Fun - Must have.
We got to spend an hour or two before we left home - him to take a cab to camp while I head to airport to study and mug my time away.
Loads of camwhore cos' I wanna keep as many photos with me to look at whenever I miss him. Haha. Sorry for being so typical, I can't help it.
Sailorboy
Geez, when I smile so genuinely, I show so much of my gum :/
"Baby, give me one last cute face for the month!"
I miss you.
Till we meet again,
10th May 2012 ; I can't wait.
xx

Define Happiness

My sincere apologies for my rare weekly blog. I used to have so much time to write last time and I could do up to 2 - 3 entries a day but now it's my study break and I have been so busy with the books, I hardly even touched my computer. (Unbelievable but true!)
I'm so tired trying to understand Management Accounting so I'm gonna stop for today and continue tomorrow. I'm gonna cover a month ago (outdated) post I promised. Remember I mentioned I found a new job at DH Sunglass, Haji Lane and we just had an official opening? Yeah! Calling for all sunglasses lovers! That's what I'm gonna show you guys today. Photos and moreeee sunglasses.
Photos: Credited to DH Photographer, Clarissa & Profession uncle
My friend, Clarissa introduced me this wonderful job. Haha. Honestly, I wouldn't have found such a job with perfect working hours if not for her so I'm really thankful (:
It is a pretty well-established shop actually. Before they moved to the current unit at 69 Haji Lane, they used to be located at a small unit at the second level of a shop house. People who actually does research on the sunglasses would be able to find them especially just to get their sunglasses. If not, you could have stumble across their signs towards their stairway. But now, it has a perfect nice spot. Big and spacious, therefore taking in more brands too!
Are you a sunglass fanatic? Do you like brands like Ray-Ban, Oakley, SUPER? Well, you ought to drop by the shop. We bring in Ray-Ban, Oakley, SUPERretrofuture, Karen Walker, Nooka, Carrera, Le Specs, Thierry Lasry, Henry Holland... etc. And what's the better deal is DH's sunglasses are authentic and cheaper than retail stores.
The official opening was held on 25th March 2012. I was the newest part-time staff there cos' I only worked once before the opening. Honestly, I may love accessories but I didn't really keep up with like fashion magazines. The most I would do is look through polyvores online but other than that, I'm a pretty boring person. Ha. I do own a few sunglasses. Well, if you count those cheap funky SUPER lookalike glasses, I have PLENTY!!! Hahaha. And not forgetting those I used to buy at Bugis street... Phuket... I got 2 main sunglasses I love so much now.
The older one, Carrera I bought from Phuket. The shape suits my face shape and my personality. It gives a very laid-back feel. Totally me (;
And 2nd pair of sunglasses I love... It's the newest one and this is authentic.
The box and casing was... OOOSSHHhhh. Seriously, where can you find such a nice casing?! And it's all cushion and furry inside!
Nice right?! I like the sides in particular. Sorry I don't have photo of it but the sides are very glamourous and outstanding, that's why I like it (:
Actually I do have another favourite sunglasses from Gucci but sadly, it cannot be found now. Well, we did find one pair at Bali Airport and I got really sad when I didn't get it but I realized its fine, cos' Wilson did try to surprise me and buy that pair but it had defects and it was the only pair left. Fate! I'm satisfied with what I have (:
Alright, back to the main story. DH Sunglass official opening was fun and nice! I got to meet everyone in the shop whom I have never met before. Besides my rugby friends, Clare and shi, I haven't met half of them and they are actually all very friendly and nice people. Haha. My boss is nice and young and actually very easy to talk to!
These were the specially designed cupcakes for the guests! Icing aren't my favourite but the flavours inside were delicious!
Shop Front
Pretty flowers + The yummy catered food from 4 Seasons (Si Ying and I chose the food hehe)
Le specs collection ; They are relatively the lowest priced sunglasses in the shop ranging from $50 - 120!
Carrera, SUPERretrofuture and Henry Holland
Henry Holland
Us!
Cute baby blue Vespa!
Long range of sunglasses
Si Ying, Me, Boss and Malvin
Major camwhoring outside with the balloons
Yay, my baby came to visit with Xing Hua, Shi and Clare
Group shot!
I did a collage out of our individual portraits, just for fun!
I will write up an entry with the full photos of my favourite sunglasses in the shop! Watch out for it (; By Saturday! They are good stuff!
[ SNEAK PREVIEW ; My favourite sunglasses ]
Photos out of my own SONY camera lens... So stay tune!
Till then.
